Pharmacy/Dispensary Refit

August – September 2026

What is Happening

Our dispensary robot has reached the end of its working life, so we are taking the opportunity to carry out a complete refurbishment of our pharmacy and dispensary.  The changes will allow us to modernise the area, improve efficiency and provide a better service for our patients.

Work will begin during the week commencing 24th August and is expected to take around three weeks.

You may notice some changes around the surgery and to the way we work while the refurbishment is taking place.  One of the most noticeable will be the PortaPharma, a purpose-built temporary pharmacy unit which has been installed at the top of the surgery car park.  We will use this during the later stages of the refurbishment so that we can continue providing our dispensing service while work is carried out.

Week Commencing 24th August

Work will begin in the main dispensary area.

This will include removing our existing dispensing robot and installing new furniture, shelving and equipment.

The Front of House pharmacy area will remain open as usual, and patients will continue to collect their prescriptions from the pharmacy counter in the normal way.

Week Commencing 31st August

Work will then move to the Front of House pharmacy area.

The existing counter and furnishings will be removed and replaced with a new, refurbished area for prescription collections and the sale of over-the-counter medicines.

To allow the contractors to work safely, the front of the pharmacy will need to be temporarily boarded off.

During this period:

  • Repeat prescriptions will be collected from the PortaPharma, located at the top of the surgery car park in the usual doctors’ parking area.
  • A selection of over-the-counter medicines will also be available from the PortaPharma.
  • Patients collecting acute medication following an appointment, such as antibiotics, will be asked to wait in the main surgery waiting room.  A member of the pharmacy team will bring your medication to you.

New flooring will also be installed from the new pharmacy counter through the main waiting room.

Please follow the signage around the surgery, which will direct you to the correct collection point.

Week Commencing 7th September

We plan to move back into the newly refurbished dispensary and Front of House area during this week.

Once the move is complete and the PortaPharma is no longer required, the temporary unit will be removed from the car park.

Near Future

Following the main refurbishment, we are also planning to refurbish our Pharmacy Consultation Room.

We will also be introducing a new pharmacy computer system, which will help us further improve the efficiency of our dispensing processes and the service we provide to patients.

We will continue to work hard to provide our usual dispensing service throughout the refurbishment, although there may occasionally be some disruption while we move between the different areas.

Our dispensary and pharmacy team will be working extremely hard to make this period as smooth as possible for patients.  Many members of the team have also volunteered to come in over the weekends to help with the moves between the different areas and reduce disruption during our normal opening hours.

If possible, we would be very grateful if you could allow a little extra time when ordering and collecting your prescriptions during this period.
